A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Cincinnati focused on cardiac arrhythmias in trauma patients undergoing pericardiotomy. The study found that 12.3% of trauma patients who underwent pericardiotomy experienced arrhythmias, which were associated with factors such as increasing age, blunt mechanism of injury, and concomitant laparotomy. The researchers concluded that further study is needed to identify potential mechanisms to reduce arrhythmias in this population. The study was published in the Journal of Surgical Research and can be accessed online. [Extracted from the article] |
