A recent study from the University of Colorado School of Medicine examined the association between unintentional firearm injury characteristics and deaths in adolescents. The research found that unintentional firearm injuries were more likely to be fatal when a peer was the shooter and when the shooting occurred at a residence. This highlights the importance of safe home firearm storage and other evidence-based approaches to reducing youth access to firearms. The study analyzed data from the Gun Violence Archive and used logistic regression to identify variables associated with fatality in unintentional firearm injuries among adolescents aged 12-17.
