Responding to health/treatment needs, recognizing various diseases, and providing preventive measures and treatment methods are taken according to the medical system of each society. The purpose of this research, as a study in the field of medical history using a review method, is to investigate this issue: how was the treatment of leprosy in Iran before the introduction of modern medicine done, and in what ways and methods? The findings of the present research indicate that the cognitive and behavioral approach (preventive measures and treatment methods) in treating Leprosy is presented in the epistemic framework of the medicine system based on the four humors view (Ṭibb-i Akhlāṭī, which physicians did). Cognitively, the cause of the disease is attributed to the imbalance of the humor and the predominance of soda humor with a "cold/dry" nature. Behavioral measures are presented in the form of prevention principles and various treatment methods, to balance the humor, and as a result, treat the disease. Due to the long duration of the initial outbreak of the disease, the suggested preventive measures were limited. To treat leprosy patients, Physicians have recommended the use of various drugs with a hot/dry nature and various non-medicinal methods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
