Abstrakt: | The article challenges the traditional view of the "dances of Jews and Moors" in late medieval Iberia. Topics include the role of these forced dances as a form of caricature and ridicule against Jews and Muslims, subjugating and normalizing bodily harm; the shift in scholarship recognizing that these dances were part of a broader racial prejudice, rather than a mechanism for social harmony; and the intersection of religious intolerance and colorism in the development of racial concepts. |
