The automobiles have been a part of modern culture and tradition since centuries and they have invariably become part of our lives. The automobile industry of India stands great and tall in front of all the other automobile sectors of different countries of the world. Moreover, the booming automobile sector of India is casting significant impact by fostering growth and development of nation as a whole. However, in recent years the automobile industry has faced certain hiccups due to demonetization and advent of COVID-19. Besides man induced and natural disasters there are several other challenges, which the automobile industry of India has to grapple with. In this backdrop of present paper endeavors to identify the most critical challenges confronted by the automobile industry of India and rank them through the Modified Total interpretative Structural Modeling (TISM). The study identifies nine challenges. It uses Total Interpretative Structural Model for modeling the enablers. Total Interpretive Structural Modeling (TISM), is a qualitative methodology advocated by Sushil (2017). TISM represents an evolved iteration of Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) and aims to elucidate intricate and vague mental models of systems by crafting a precise and well-defined model.
