A recent study conducted in Malaysia by the Ministry of Health focused on the financial impact of cancer on lower-income patients in public healthcare. The study found that cancer patients face significant out-of-pocket expenses and productivity loss, with an annual mean total cost per patient of US$2,398.28. The study highlighted that despite public healthcare subsidies, cancer costs can still be a barrier to accessing essential treatment, emphasizing the need for targeted financial navigation services to support individuals and families affected by cancer.
