A recent study conducted at the University of Sydney focused on the impact of clinical information on the histopathologic diagnosis of melanocytic skin lesions. The research found that providing clinical information to pathologists may improve diagnostic confidence and interobserver agreement, leading to upgrades in the histopathologic diagnosis. While clinical diagnosis on pathology requisition forms may prevent missing a progressive melanoma, further research is needed to assess the appropriateness of histopathology upgrading when clinical images are provided and its impact on patient outcomes.
