Abstrakt: The article examines the effects of short apneas and periodic breathing on very preterm infants. Topics include the hallmarks of apnea of prematurity (AOP) which is a well-known diagnosis for premature infants, a presentation by Dr. Rosemary Horne and colleagues at the Annual Meeting of the American Association of SIDS Prevention Physicians about the short- and long-term effects of intermittent hypoxia, and a study which evaluated the link between hypoxemia and death or disability.
