Abstrakt: | A recent study conducted by researchers at University Hospital Zurich focused on the impact of brain metastases on patients with extracranial oligometastasis. The study analyzed 7,000 oncological positron emission tomography scans to identify patients with extracranial oligometastatic disease and found that brain metastases caused a transition to a whole-body polymetastatic state in 45% of patients. Patients with oligometastatic disease had a median overall survival of 28 months compared to 10 months in the polymetastatic group. The research highlights the importance of considering a multimodality treatment strategy for patients with oligometastatic cancer, even in the presence of brain metastases.
