Abstrakt: A study conducted by the Faculty of Medicine University of Indonesia focused on evaluating the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) occurrence in patients with chronic hepatitis B virus infection. The research aimed to determine the best cut-off value of alpha fetoprotein (AFP) biomarker examination for HCC surveillance in these patients. The study included 506 subjects with chronic hepatitis B, and the results indicated that an AFP cut-off value of 8.7 ng/ml showed the best sensitivity and specificity for HCC surveillance specifically in patients with hepatitis B etiology. The research highlights the importance of monitoring AFP levels in patients with chronic hepatitis B to assess the risk of developing liver cancer. [Extracted from the article]
