Abstrakt: A recent study conducted by Minjiang University in Fuzhou, China, examined the nutritional and phytochemical composition of the edible stems of Smooth Cordgrass (Spartina alterniflora) collected from different locations in Fujian province. The study found that the tender stems of S. alterniflora are rich in protein, carbohydrates, fats, essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, making them a potentially nutritious addition to the diet or forage. The research also indicated that the levels of potential contaminants in the stems are below established safe thresholds for consumption, providing valuable information for the sustainable utilization of S. alterniflora resources and integrated control of the species.
