A recent study conducted by the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand, explored the perceptual expertise of forensic examiners in visual comparison tasks. The research found that while examiners demonstrated domain-specific expertise in their respective fields (such as face, fingerprint, and firearms comparison), some of their skills also generalized to tasks outside their expertise. However, the best performance was still observed within the examiners' domain of expertise. This study sheds light on the domain-specific and domain-general contributions of perceptual expertise among forensic examiners. [Extracted from the article] |
