The article traces the origins of the city status of Torhovytsia, and also finds out all its owners: Nemyrya Ryazanovych, Mykhailo Vasyliovych, princes Koretsky, Masalsky, as well as Leshchynsky, and Stanislaw Kazymir Bienievsky. Special att ention is paid to the fact that Torhovytsa received a location privilege in 1562, which initiated a new stage in its development. The small population of Torhovytsia during the research period allows it to be classified as a small town (town), which included a castle and a suburb. The main buildings were wooden, the city fortifications were made of wood and earth. Among the religious buildings of Torhovytsia, only one church is recorded. City self-government was obviously ensured by Magdeburg law, as there are references to the activities of mayors. The importance of crafts, trades, fairs and, more broadly, the entrepreneurial activities of the townspeople in the economic life of Torhovytsa is revealed. It turned out that the city was often rented out. The difficult relations between the burghers and the nobility are analyzed. The socio-economic level of development of Torhovytsa in combination with religious buildings in the city made it a certain center for the surrounding district. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
