This study presents the formulation development and characterization of a topical ethosomal gel incorporating Alpinia galanga and Aloe Vera extract, aimed at enhancing skin absorption and therapeutic efficacy. Preformulation studies assessed the physicochemical properties of the herbal extracts, utilizing Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) for purity identification and various qualitative tests to confirm the presence of active phytoconstituents. The partition coefficient was determined to evaluate drug permeability and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was employed for melting point analysis. Ethanol-based ethosomal formulations were prepared via the classical cold method, followed by the formulation of gels using Carbopol 934. The characterization of ethosomes included assessment of entrapment efficiency and vesicle morphology via optical microscopy. Physical evaluation of the final gel formulations encompassed measurements of pH, spreadability, viscosity, consistency, and drug content, along with an in vitro release study using a Franz diffusion cell. Results indicated successful incorporation of the active compounds in a stable ethosomal gel formulation, with favorable characteristics for topical application. This innovative delivery system has the potential to improve the therapeutic outcomes of Alpinia galanga and Aloe vera in topical treatments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
