Nanotechnology has permeated nearly every engineering domain, with tribology emerging as a crucial research area where it plays a pivotal role. In this study, the tribological properties of SAE20W40 engine oil were investigated with the addition of varying weight percentages (0.2 wt%, 0.5 wt%, and 1 wt%) of CuO and ZnO nanoparticles separately. The surface morphology and structural characteristics of the nanoparticles were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) techniques, respectively. The viscosity of the samples was evaluated using a Cannon Fenske viscometer, while the flash point and fire point of the prepared nanolubricants were measured employing an Abel Pensky flash apparatus. The tribological and anti-wear properties were examined using a four-ball tester. The results revealed that the nanolubricant prepared by incorporating 0.5 wt% ZnO nanoparticles exhibited superior tribological performance compared to the other formulations investigated in this study.
