Abstrakt: The article discusses the comparison of 12-month prevalence estimates of substance use disorders using DSM-5 versus DSM-IV criteria among U.S. nonelderly adults with substance use. The study found that the shift from DSM-IV to DSM-5 criteria led to marked increases in the prevalence of common substance use disorders, with the addition of craving criteria explaining some of the increase. The findings suggest that a larger proportion of nonelderly adults may have substance use disorders than previously reported, highlighting the need for timely interventions. The study used data from the 2021 National Survey on Drug Use and Health and was sponsored by the National Institute on Drug Abuse. [Extracted from the article]
