Researchers at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center conducted a retrospective cohort study to identify predictors of first-pass isolation (FPI) in patients with recurrent atrial fibrillation undergoing repeat ablation. The study found that FPI was achieved in a significant percentage of left and right pulmonary veins, with bilateral FPI achieved in 35% of patients. Lack of FPI in the right pulmonary veins at index PVI was associated with a higher risk of chronic reconnection, while elevated left atrial voltage predicted the absence of FPI in the right pulmonary veins. The research highlights the importance of understanding factors influencing FPI to improve outcomes in atrial fibrillation management. [Extracted from the article] |
