A recent study conducted at Antwerp University Hospital in Belgium explored the use of barbed sutures in cardiac surgery, specifically in prosthesis-prosthesis anastomosis under high, long-term pressure. The research compared knotless barbed sutures to conventional sutures in an in vitro model and found that the barbed sutures were feasible and showed promising results. The study concluded that further in vivo trials are needed to validate these findings. For more information, readers can refer to the published research in Perfusion, authored by Filip W. N.
