Researchers from the University of Georgia have reported the first confirmed outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in a wild boar in Nepal, specifically in Shuklaphanta National Park in February 2023. Post-mortem findings and real-time PCR confirmed the presence of ASF, with evidence suggesting potential transmission from nearby infected domestic pigs. The study emphasizes the importance of implementing rigorous biosecurity measures, surveillance, and wildlife management strategies to prevent further spread between wild boar and domestic pig populations. This research underscores the urgent need for enhanced measures to control the spread of ASF in Nepal. [Extracted from the article] |
