A recent study from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine examined the use of veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) in patients with fulminant myocarditis (FM) to improve survival outcomes. The research, which included 1,268 patients, found that survival rates were 65% among adult patients and 71% among pediatric patients. Younger age and absence of prior cardiac arrest were associated with better survival outcomes in both adult and pediatric populations. The study concluded that VA-ECMO can significantly improve survival outcomes in patients with FM. [Extracted from the article] |
