A study conducted at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, China, focused on the progression patterns and risk factors of axial elongation in young adults with nonpathologic high myopia. The research involved a cohort of 563 participants aged 18 to 50 years, with findings indicating that annual axial elongation was 0.03 mm/year over a 30.23-month follow-up period. Risk factors for axial elongation included baseline axial length, age under 40, axial asymmetry, and being female, while the use of antiglaucoma medications was found to slow down axial elongation. The study concluded that topical antiglaucoma medications may be beneficial in reducing ongoing axial elongation in individuals with nonpathologic high myopia. [Extracted from the article] |
