A recent study conducted at Washington University School of Medicine focused on estimating gestational age-specific reference intervals for coagulation assays in neonates. The research found that current reference intervals for coagulation testing in neonates may not accurately reflect normative values due to immature synthesis of vitamin K-dependent factors. By analyzing clinical data from a neonatal intensive care unit, the study established indirect reference intervals that differed significantly from current standards, potentially reducing the number of abnormal results and improving clinical outcomes. Further research will explore the impact of implementing these new reference intervals on patient care. [Extracted from the article] |
