A recent study conducted at University Hospital Valme examined the impact of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) coinfection on mortality in patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection after sustained virological response (SVR). The study found that HIV coinfection did not reduce overall survival after SVR in patients with HCV chronic infection and advanced fibrosis. The research included 1118 patients from Spain and concluded that HIV coinfection did not have a significant effect on mortality rates. The study was published in Clinical Infectious Diseases and was supported by various organizations including the European Union and Gilead Biomedical Research Fellowship Program.
