A recent study from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus explores the connection between Down Syndrome (DS) and Alzheimer's Disease (AD), suggesting that the mTOR pathway may be a common link between the two conditions. The research highlights the potential role of the triplication of the Amyloid precursor protein (APP) gene and other mechanistic pathways in the development of age-related diseases in individuals with DS. By utilizing advanced omics platforms such as genomics, spatial transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, researchers aim to uncover new insights into the pathological cellular mechanisms underlying DS-AD. This study provides valuable information for understanding the complex relationship between DS and AD, offering potential avenues for further research and therapeutic interventions.
