Latin America has always been a source of interest to the U.S. as it is home to over 659 million people (as of 2023) with 2023 GDP (Gross Domestic Product) amounting to US$ 6,517.25 billion. In its development, the U.S. interests in this region have been very diverse ranging from security, politics, economics - trade, to democracy and human rights. Also, geographical proximity stresses the importance of Latin America, especially in the current context requiring joint efforts to address such prioritized problems as border security, democracy and human rights, illegal drug and weapon trafficking, and response to climate change. This paper is aimed at analyzing the adjustment of American foreign policy towards Latin America, with a focus on political - security policies executed under the Biden-Harris administration.
