A study published in Family Practice News found that middle-aged adults who consume higher amounts of ultra-processed foods have an increased risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The study, which analyzed data from 207,012 middle-aged adults in the UK Biobank, showed that participants in the highest quintile of ultra-processed food consumption had a 17% greater adjusted risk for RA compared to those in the lowest quintile. The researchers recommended reducing ultra-processed food intake to lower the incidence of RA, emphasizing the need for dietary guidelines to address the negative effects of these foods.
