A recent study conducted by the University of California San Diego (UCSD) examined the influence of industry affiliation on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for knee osteoarthritis. The research found that industry affiliation did not significantly impact the outcomes of the studies, with no difference in qualitative conclusions or outcome scores between industry-affiliated (IA) and non-industry-affiliated (NIA) studies. While the results suggest that industry involvement may not influence RCTs examining PRP, it is still important to carefully evaluate commercial affiliations when considering new treatment approaches for knee osteoarthritis.
