A study conducted by Ben-Gurion University of the Negev examined the efficacy of a Bromelain-based enzymatic debridement agent, EX-02, in treating venous leg ulcers (VLU) compared to a gel vehicle (GV) and non-surgical standard of care (NSSOC). The study involved 196 patients from medical centers in the United States, Switzerland, and Israel, with EX-02 showing a significantly higher incidence of complete debridement compared to GV and NSSOC. While additional studies are needed to further explore the benefits of EX-02 in treating VLU and other chronic wound etiologies, the initial results show promise in improving wound care practices.
