A study conducted by Xinjiang Agricultural University in Urumqi, China, examined the impact of polyethylene microplastics (PE-MPs) on potato growth and development, as well as on the interactions between Colorado potato beetles and their predators. The research found that the presence of PE-MPs in the soil negatively affected potato plants, reduced potato yield, and impacted the survival rates of the beetles and their predators. These findings highlight the potential risks of microplastics on terrestrial food chains and ecosystems. The study was funded by various organizations in China and has been peer-reviewed for accuracy. [Extracted from the article] |
