A recent study conducted at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, focused on the use of botulinum toxin chemodenervation of the posterior belly of the digastric muscle in patients with facial synkinesis. The research aimed to improve patient-reported outcomes related to jaw tightness and swallow discomfort. Results showed that patients experienced significant improvements in these symptoms post-treatment, indicating that adding PBD injections to the therapeutic regimen may benefit synkinesis patients.
