The article discusses the rise in popularity of the domestic interior space, called the estrado, in Spanish homes during the late Middle Ages. Topics discussed include the origin of the estrado from the kingdom of al-Andalus in the Iberian Peninsula, the design of furniture in the estrado, and the role of carpets as one of the main elements of the estrado. Also discussed are the evolution of the estrado as a status of wealth and prestige and its expansion in Spain's territories. |
