The Quinault Indian Nation conducts annual surveys on Kalaloch Beach to track the population of Pacific razor clams, using pumped-in seawater to liquefy sand and reveal the clams. This data informs future harvests to ensure sustainability. Co-managers, including the Hoh Tribe and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, collaborate on assessments to fine-tune population estimates. In a separate effort, the Lummi Nation deploys innovative traps called "crab slabs" to combat invasive European green crabs in the Lummi Sea Pond, supporting their shellfish hatchery program.
