Researchers at Lund University conducted a nationwide study to investigate the risk factors and incidence of new-onset heart failure in patients after pacemaker implantation. The study included 65,579 patients who received pacemakers between 2005 and 2020, with 21% of them being diagnosed with heart failure within 5 years post-implantation. Risk factors for new-onset heart failure included age, sex, hypertension, diabetes, and other comorbidities. The study concluded that a risk score based on these variables could help identify patients at high risk for new-onset heart failure. [Extracted from the article] |
