A study from Fukui General Hospital in Japan reported on a 63-year-old man with pontocerebellar hypoplasia lacking the claustrum (CL). The patient had a history of cerebral palsy, intellectual disability, cerebellar atrophy, and seizures since birth. The autopsy revealed brain abnormalities, including a small frontal lobe, cerebellum, and pons, as well as the absence of bilateral CLs. This case may represent a new subtype of pontocerebellar hypoplasia, and further research is needed to understand the functions of the CL. [Extracted from the article] |
