A study conducted at Universidad Tecnologica in Pereira, Colombia, focused on coinfections and in-hospital mortality in HIV/AIDS patients. The research found that coinfections, particularly with Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Treponema pallidum, were common and increased the risk of death. Patients with a previous HIV diagnosis who received antiretroviral therapy had a better prognosis, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis and treatment in managing the disease.
