Non migratory biopolymer packaging (NMBP) is a novel form of an active packaging system in which the polymers possess biological activity without migration of the active compound from the packaging material into food or substrate. Biopolymers are covalently immobilized or grafted with enzymes and antibodies to obtain the desired effect. It provides several benefits such as the production of lactose-free foods, cholesterol-free foods, and preservative-free foods. It also indicates the quality and safety of food and extends the shelf-life of food by acting as intelligent and antimicrobial packaging. NMBP is the most suitable for packaging health-promoting foods and to fulfill the needs of the current generation, i.e., awareness towards health rather than price, convenience, saving labor cost, reduce food processing time, and compliance with existing quality standards.
