Abstrakt: This document is a response to a viewpoint article that discussed the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network's campaign for legislation to ensure insurance coverage of biomarker testing. The authors of the response disagree with the viewpoint's conclusion that these laws may have limited impact due to implementation challenges. They argue that coverage is a necessary requirement for equitable access to biomarker testing and that current coverage policies are more restrictive than treatment guidelines. While the viewpoint authors expressed concerns about enforcement and lack of specificity in the laws, the response argues that existing state laws already empower insurance commissioners to enforce requirements and handle consumer complaints. The response concludes that state laws ensuring coverage of biomarker testing are evidence-based tools to improve outcomes and that the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network will continue working to eliminate cancer through public policies.
