This article provides an overview of laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC), a minimally invasive procedure for gallbladder removal. LC has become a widely accepted and safe alternative to open cholecystectomy (OC), although complications such as bile duct injury can still occur. The article also explores the use of LC for acute cholecystitis and laparoscopic common bile duct exploration (LCBDE) for choledocholithiasis, as well as alternative procedures for challenging cases. The need for further research on preoperative assessment methods and the use of new technologies in LC is highlighted. Additionally, the article discusses studies comparing different surgical techniques for common bile duct stone removal, finding no significant difference in success rates but variations in adverse events and hospital stay duration. The authors recommend laparoscopic surgery for pediatric patients but note insufficient evidence to support its use in adults. The text concludes by emphasizing the importance of training in laparoscopic common bile duct exploration and its potential benefits. [Extracted from the article] |
