Abstrakt: Modern cities have recently witnessed a high population increase and the city of Baghdad is one of these cities that face great challenges in meeting the energy needs of this large population. Environmental problems have also developed as a result of the emission of carbon gases. The research aims to calculate the carbon footprint quantitatively and overtime to give an indication of the continuous increase in electricity consumption in the case study and the relationship of that footprint to land use. This research paper will review the issue of the carbon footprint of electrical energy consumption and calculate the carbon footprint resulting from electrical energy consumption in the city of Baghdad for the years 2013 and 2023. According to official statistics, Baghdad is the highest among the governorates of consumption reached (24,046,022 mwh) at 2023. By calculating the environmental footprint of different land uses in the city of Baghdad the results showed that residential use had the highest carbon footprint at 61%. To reduce the carbon footprint of electricity consumption in Baghdad renewable and clean electrical energy generation sources must be adopted and sustainable strategies must be adopted in land use planning in the city.
