A study conducted at the City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, California, focused on Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) positive primary cutaneous marginal zone lymphoma (PCMZL) and its transformation to plasmablastic lymphoma. The study found that this transformation is rare and has a poor prognosis. The research analyzed clinical and pathologic characteristics of transformed PCMZL cases and identified common mutations. The study concluded that transformation of EBV positive PCMZL is a poor prognostic indicator, with the reported case being the first well-defined case transformed to plasmablastic lymphoma.
