A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Zurich explores the effects of combining the psychedelic substance N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) with the monoamine oxidase inhibitor harmine (DMT-harmine) during meditation. The study involved 40 experienced meditators who participated in a three-day meditation retreat and received either a placebo or DMT-harmine. The results showed that meditators who received DMT-harmine reported greater levels of mystical-type experiences, non-dual awareness, emotional breakthroughs, and psychological insight compared to those who received the placebo. Additionally, participants who received DMT-harmine rated their experience as more personally meaningful, spiritually significant, and well-being-enhancing. The study highlights the specific effects of psychedelics during meditation and provides valuable insights into the potential benefits of mind-body therapy. [Extracted from the article] |
