Researchers from the National Public Health Organization in Greece have reported on the emergence and spread of multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates in hospitals in the Attica region. The isolates were found to be NDM-1 producers, meaning they carry a gene that confers resistance to multiple antibiotics. The study used various methods, including whole-genome sequencing, to analyze the genetic relatedness of the isolates and found that they belonged to international high-risk clones. The researchers emphasized the importance of ongoing surveillance to monitor the emergence of these resistant strains. [Extracted from the article] |
