A recent study conducted at the University of Oxford explores the possibility of facilitating home births in the context of perinatal palliative care. The study highlights the importance of providing compassionate support to families facing a life-limiting illness diagnosis for their newborns. The researchers discuss a case in which a couple, after receiving a diagnosis of hypoplastic left heart syndrome, requested a home birth with perinatal palliative care support. The study concludes that while facilitating home births in this context can be highly valued by families, it may be challenging to implement in many situations. Further research is needed to understand the preferences of women and families receiving perinatal palliative care. [Extracted from the article] |
