Abstrakt: A recent study conducted at Auburn University in Alabama aimed to understand the use and perceptions of cognitive screening tools by social service professionals in nursing homes. The study found that these professionals routinely use screening tools, with the most commonly used tools being the Brief Interview of Mental Status (BIMS) and the Mini Mental Status Examination (MMSE). Participants reported using different tools for different purposes and expressed interest in further training in cognitive assessment. The study suggests that using multiple screening tools can improve the detection of cognitive status and decline in nursing home residents, but further evaluation is needed.
