Researchers from Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida have published a report on multicystic encephalopathy, a rare neurological condition characterized by the presence of multiple cystic or cavitary lesions in the brain due to repetitive episodes of hypoxic-ischemic injury in neonates and infants. The report presents a case of multicystic encephalopathy in a 3-month-old male with Tetralogy of Fallot and multiple comorbidities. The researchers conducted a gross examination of the brain during autopsy, revealing multiple irregular cystic lesions and distortion of the brain parenchyma. The report provides an extensive review of the existing literature on multicystic encephalopathy, including its etiology, clinical presentation, and histopathologic findings.
