A recent study conducted by researchers at University College London (UCL) explored the effects of subchronic administration of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) escitalopram on brain activation in healthy volunteers. The study found that the administration of escitalopram led to an increase in right amygdala activation during a task, without significant changes in mood. This finding challenges previous assumptions about the effects of SSRIs on amygdala activation and highlights gaps in our understanding of serotonin function. The study was published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology and has been peer-reviewed. [Extracted from the article] |
