A recent study conducted by the University of California San Diego (UCSD) has focused on the prevention of tracheostomy-related pressure injuries. Tracheostomies, while beneficial for critically ill patients, can lead to complications. The study introduced a medical device called the tracheostomy support system, which aims to reduce pressure at the device-skin interface. The results showed that the active tracheostomy support system reduced average pressures by 59%, indicating its effectiveness in minimizing pressure. This research provides valuable insights into addressing and preventing tracheostomy-related pressure injuries. [Extracted from the article] |
