A new report from the University of Dublin highlights the challenge of recruiting adolescent girls into physical activity programs. The study conducted a systematic review of randomized controlled trials of physical activity interventions for adolescent girls worldwide. The preliminary analysis showed that most programs were school-based, multicomponent, and designed based on behavior change theories. The mean recruitment rate for adolescent girls into these programs was 60.4%, with high variability. The findings of this review may help physical activity program providers enhance their recruitment processes and increase teenage girls' participation in physical activity worldwide. The research was funded by the Irish Research Council and the Dublin City Sport & Wellbeing Partnership. [Extracted from the article] |
