Characterised by a strong methodological diversity, the studies on the Gilets Jaunes cover the diverse forms in which the movement took place all over France. We focus on the relationship to politics and democracy that emerges from this protest movement, promoting atypical forms of participation. We propose the concept of «anti-political politicisation» to qualify this peculiar opposition to elites, and the politicisation for individuals often unaccustomed to collective action acquired in the movement. Then, we discuss the representative conceptualizations within the movement as well as the major contributions to the literature on protest movements stemming from the literature on the Gilets Jaunes.
