Abstrakt: The Illinois State Police are partnering with Waze and Google Maps to provide real-time information to drivers about roadside personnel, in an effort to reduce "move over" crashes. The state police will generate messages about crashes, traffic stops, and other incidents, which will be passed along to Google's cloud service and then distributed to drivers using the Waze and Google Maps apps. The goal is to increase driver awareness and compliance with the law requiring drivers to slow down and change lanes when they see stopped emergency vehicles. The alerts are currently only issued when a state trooper is on the scene, but the state hopes other navigation apps will adopt the same features. [Extracted from the article]
